LOVEYBUMS’ WASHING INSTRUCTIONS
Organic Nappies and Liners: Please wash before first use to remove natural oils and increase absorbency. Wash in warm water with a mild eco washing liquid; warm tumble or line dry. Do not use bleach or fabric softener.
PUL Covers: Wash in hot water before first use; wash in warm or cool water thereafter and tumble dry on low heat or line dry. Do not use bleach or fabric softener.
Fleece Covers: Wash in warm or cool water; tumble dry on low heat or line dry. Do not use bleach or fabric softener.
Wool Covers: Hand wash or machine wash on gentle cycle in cool water with a mild eco washing liquid; hang dry. When your cover begins to lose some of its water resistance, you will need to re-lanolize it. You can do this by dissolving a small (pea-sized) amount of pure lanolin (such as Lansinoh Cream) in tepid water and soaking the cover for about 15 minutes. Adding a drop of baby shampoo to the water may also help to dissolve the lanolin. After soaking, wrap your cover in a towel to squeeze out excess water and hang dry.
BUTT NATURAL’S AND SWADDLEBEES’ WASH AND CARE FOR COTTON AND ORGANIC COTTON NAPPIES
Wash and dry your nappy once in warm water* prior to first use. This causes the fibres to shrink, fluff up and become more absorbent. It is not necessary to wash more than this before using the nappy for the first time. The nappy will shrink and get thicker with the first few washes. This shrinkage has been allowed for when designing the nappies. Hemp inserts will need to be primed by washing and drying them 3-4 times in HOT water prior to first use.
Keep your wet and dirty nappies in a nappy bucket. Shake out the insert into your nappy bucket and throw the nappy in after changing your baby's nappy.
Because organic and 100% cotton fibres tend to wear slightly more than conventional or synthetic fibres, a little extra care can extend the life of the nappy. Wash your nappies in warm water* with a small amount of mild eco washing liquid/powder on a gentle cycle. Nappies do not require much liquid/powder, too much will leave residue causing your nappies to possibly smell, leak, or leave baby with a rash. 1/4 the recommended amount per load is sufficient. Washing the nappies in hot water can make our dyed organic nappies fade in colour. An additional rinse can be used for particularly soiled loads. Make sure that your nappies are rinsed clean. Any residue from faeces, urine, detergent or vinegar can make your nappies smell. Tumble dry on medium to low heat or line dry.
Do not use fabric softener. It will coat the nappies making them water repellent and reduce the absorbency of the nappy. Be aware that if you use dryer sheets in your dryer for other laundry this can coat your dryer and transfer to your nappies.
Do not use bleach. This will cause the fabric's fibres to break down.
Do not stretch the nappy while it is still warm. Allowing the nappy to cool after taking it out of the dryer will extend the life of its elastic.
Warm means water temperature should not exceed 40 degrees C or 105 degrees F.
